Projects & Solutions
A full spectrum of research and development services enables the Research Studios to offer corporate clients and partners practical and competitive solutions. The Studios form an interface between university know-how, applied research and corporate clients who employ the developed solutions, due to the leading role of university scientists in the Studio work teams.
At the research studio Pervasive Computing Applications, we focus on creating solutions for problems of interaction, media access and information handling in the real world - away from your office desktop. We develop sensor-based applications for sensing and influencing physical parameters to estimate the situation a user is in ("context") and try to provide adequate services and information to him.
The studio offers vertical design solutions, through every phase of a project and on every system layer - from object design to framework infrastructure. Some of our recent projects include:

Media Space Navigator (2007-2008)
A recommender system that
helps TV viewers to navigate content
which interests them from the plethora of television programmes and
video-on-demand broadcasting based on meta-data, multimodal similarity
matching and user feedback [VHL+08]. |

Telekom
To enable easy
interaction in a home entertainment environment, PCA has created a tangible
remote control that interacts with consumer electronics components. PCA
designed a cube that you can flip and rotate, which maps to a set of commands
enabling the control of interactive TV content [FVEW08].

SPECTACLES (2005-2008)
SPECTACLES project
aims at creating a autonomous computing platform that is integrated into the
frame structure of glasses. The system includes components for communication,
interaction and sensing to support different application areas. (FIT-IT ES
Project Nr. 809 450) |

ViMEM (2007-2009)
Virtual Machines for
Embedded Multimedia aims at creating a rapid prototyping environment (IDE,
VM, execution platform, high-level framework) for embedded devices like STBs,
DVD players, media recorders etc. that can be programmed via dynamically
typed languages (EcmaScript, Python). with StreamUnlimited GmbH, TU Wien |
